Consumer:Using pyridoxine together with PHENobarbital may decrease the effects of PHENobarbital. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or if you experience loss of seizure control. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Large doses of pyridoxine (greater than 200 mg/day) may decrease the concentration of certain antiepileptic medications, including phenytoin and phenobarbital. The mechanism of this interaction is not known.
MANAGEMENT: If large doses of pyridoxine must be used concomitantly with these medications, close observation for evidence of altered anticonvulsant effect is recommended. Patients should be advised to notify their caregiver if they experience loss of seizure control.
