Consumer:

Using interferon alfa-2a together with perindopril may lead to increased side effects. Contact your doctor if you experience decreased appetite, chills, fever, muscle aches, and unusual bleeding or bruising. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: The concomitant use of recombinant interferon-alpha-2a and some angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors has been associated with a higher incidence of granulocytopenia than either drug used alone in patients with cryoglobulinemia. The mechanism is unknown but may be related to an autoimmune response. It is also unknown whether patients with other conditions may be affected. Data exist for enalapril and captopril.

MANAGEMENT: Until more information is available, close hematologic monitoring is recommended.
