Consumer:Using lidocaine together with procainamide can affect the rhythm of your heart and cause mental status changes. Contact your doctor if you experience tiredness, dizziness, fainting, confusion, restlessness, hallucinations. Tremor, difficulty breathing, and an irregular heartbeat. You may need a dose adjustment or special test if you use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Limited data suggest that the combination of lidocaine and procainamide may result in an increased risk of conduction abnormalities, including complete AV heart block, and increased risk of nervous system side effects such as restlessness and hallucinations. Patients with preexisting conduction abnormalities are at higher risk for conduction abnormalities with the combination.
MANAGEMENT: Close monitoring of the patient's hemodynamics, ECG, and mental status is recommended, especially in high-risk patients.
