Consumer:

Using rifAMPin together with tocainide may decrease the effects of tocainide. Contact your doctor if your condition changes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Rifampin may increase the nonrenal clearance of tocainide. Plasma tocainide concentrations may be decreased. The mechanism is probably induction of CYP450 hepatic metabolism of tocainide.

MANAGEMENT: Management consists of monitoring the patient's response to tocainide. The clinician also should consider checking plasma tocainide concentrations after three days of coadministration.
