Using azithromycin together with aluminum hydroxide may decrease the effects of azithromycin. Azithromycin should be administered at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after aluminum hydroxide. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: The concomitant administration of aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids may reduce peak serum concentrations (Cmax) of oral azithromycin, but does not affect total absorption (AUC).

MANAGEMENT: Azithromycin should be administered at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids.
