Seconal Sodium and Stiripentol Capsules

In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Secobarbital may reduce the blood levels of stiripentol, which may make the medication less effective in some cases. Contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen or your condition changes. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

MONITOR: Coadministration with inducers of CYP450 1A2, 2C19, and/or 3A4 may decrease the plasma concentrations of stiripentol, which has been shown in vitro to undergo phase I metabolism via these pathways. Pharmacokinetic studies have not been conducted. In a retrospective analysis of 220 stiripentol serum concentrations derived from 75 patients in three German epilepsy centres, concomitant use of phenobarbital or phenytoin (n=7) was associated with a 63% decrease in stiripentol serum concentrations.

MANAGEMENT: The potential for diminished pharmacologic effects of stiripentol should be considered during coadministration with CYP450 inducers. Alternative treatments may be required if an interaction is suspected.
