Using zaleplon together with cimetidine may increase the effects of zaleplon. Contact your doctor if you experience sleepiness, loss of coordination, dizziness, confusion, shallow breathing, feeling light-headed, or fainting. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

ADJUST DOSE: Concomitant administration of zaleplon and cimetidine resulted in an 85% increase in the area under the plasma concentration versus time curve for zaleplon. Cimetidine inhibits both aldehyde oxidase and CYP450 3A4, the primary enzymes responsible for metabolism of zaleplon.

MANAGEMENT: If these drugs are used concurrently, the initial dose of zaleplon should be reduced to 5 mg. Patients should be monitored for excessive CNS depression, memory impairment, loss of coordination, and dizziness.
