Ranitidine belongs to a group of drugs called histamine-2 blockers. It works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces.

Ranitidine is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It also treats conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Ranitidine also treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions in which acid backs up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing heartburn.

It is used in certain procedures called planar scintigraphy or single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Thallous chloride tl 201 shows how much blood is getting to your heart muscle when you are resting or exercising (stressed). Thallous chloride Tl 201 belongs to the group of medicines called radiopharmaceuticals (radioactive agents).

Thallous chloride tl 201 is also used to help diagnose parathyroid problems.

Thallous chloride tl 201 is to be given only by or under the direct supervision of a doctor with specialized training in nuclear medicine.
