Tegretol and Ticlid

In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Using carBAMazepine together with ticlopidine may increase the effects of carBAMazepine. Contact your doctor if you experience shallow breathing, fast heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, urinating less or not at all, muscle twitches, restlessness, tremors, slurred speech, staggering walk, and feeling light-headed or fainting. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

MONITOR: A case has been reported in which elevated carbamazepine levels (approximately a 75% increase over 5 weeks) were reported when ticlopidine was added to the patients therapy. The mechanism of the interaction has not been reported.

MANAGEMENT: Patients receiving carbamazepine should be monitored closely if ticlopidine is added to or removed from their drug therapy. Patients should be advised to report signs of carbamazepine toxicity (nausea, visual disturbances, dizziness, or ataxia) to their physicians. The carbamazepine dosage may require reduction.
