Using sodium oxybate together with diphenhydrAMINE is not recommended. Combining these medications can significantly increase the risk of serious side effects such as respiratory depression, low blood pressure, fainting, coma, and even death. You should avoid the use of alcohol while being treated with either of these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how your medications affect you, and do not exceed the dosage or frequency of use prescribed by your doctor. For sodium oxybate, the manufacturer recommends specifically that you not drive a car, operate machinery, or perform other hazardous activities for at least 6 hours after taking a dose. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

CONTRAINDICATED: The central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects of sodium oxybate, which is the sodium salt of gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), may be potentiated by concomitant use of sedative-hypnotic agents. An increased risk of serious adverse reactions such as respiratory depression, hypotension, profound sedation, syncope, coma, and even death should be anticipated.

MANAGEMENT: The use of sodium oxybate in combination with sedative-hypnotic agents is considered contraindicated.
