Valproic Acid and Derivatives and Xenical
Determining the interaction of Valproic Acid and Derivatives and Xenical and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Orlistat may reduce the blood levels and effects of valproic acid. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Let your doctor know if orlistat becomes less effective or is no longer controlling your symptoms. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Orlistat may interfere with the gastrointestinal absorption of certain anticonvulsants, resulting in reduced serum concentrations, bioavailability and therapeutic effect. Loss of seizure control has been reported during concomitant use of orlistat and valproic acid and lamotrigine. However, orlistat did not affect the pharmacokinetics of a single 300 mg dose of phenytoin in healthy subjects.
MANAGEMENT: Patients should be monitored for clinical and laboratory evidence of altered anticonvulsant efficacy. If this occurs, separation of the orlistat and anticonvulsant dosing time should be considered.
