Delavirdine and Sustiva (Efavirenz Capsules)
Determining the interaction of Delavirdine and Sustiva (Efavirenz Capsules) and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using delavirdine together with efavirenz may alter the effects of both medication. Contact your doctor if you experience increased side effects or if your condition changes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: The coadministration of delavirdine in combination with other non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) like efavirenz or nevirapine has not been studied. However, since all three drugs are metabolized by the CYP450 3A4 isoenzyme, pharmacokinetic interactions may theoretically occur. Delavirdine is a potent inhibitor of CYP450 3A4 and may increase the plasma concentrations of both efavirenz and nevirapine. Nevirapine, on the other hand, is an inducer of the isoenzyme and may decrease the plasma concentrations of delavirdine. Efavirenz may have variable effects on delavirdine because it can induce as well as competitively inhibit CYP450 3A4 metabolism.
MANAGEMENT: Clinical monitoring for altered effects of both delavirdine and the other NNRTI may be appropriate following addition or withdrawal of one or the other drug.
